Craig Allan,
Co-Founder & President

Craig has invested 11 years learning the ins and outs of marketing and systems-driven business from Dan Kennedy, Michael Gerber, Chet Holmes, and Alexis, who he hired as a coach in 2009, which made the pivotal difference in his career.

He has extensive experience building marketing-based businesses, particularly where it comes to integrating sales process with CRM systems for automation and reporting. Along his career path, he’s worked with families in the areas of trust & asset protection, real estate and bankruptcy matters.

Today, he is committed to serving lawyers because he believes that families are the most important unit of society, and the professionals who serve them have the greatest potential to make a positive impact with these families, and the future generations that will grow up to lead in our society. By bringing the new law business model and sacred work of legal life planning to more lawyers, he feels he is making a significant contribution to the world our children grow up in.

He splits his time between Rochester, NY where his daughter lives, and Boulder, CO where he feels truly at home.

What’s Your Exit Strategy?

What's Your Exit Strategy

Will your law firm be a saleable asset, or just ride off into the sunset with you one day? For lawyers who figure it out, selling their law practice is a great retirement strategy. For others, selling is a nice dream. And many others know it’s not even worth trying to sell what they’ve been holding together with duct tape and bubble gum all these years. There’s a secret about building and selling businesses (which you weren’t taught in law school). “Companies like McDonalds, Federal Express and Disney didn’t end up as mature companies. They started out that way!” ~Thomas … Continue reading »

Lawyers: Is It Time To Quit Law?

quitting

You don’t have to love being a lawyer. There’s no requirement that you do. In fact, there’s no requirement that you continue practicing law. Think about that… You’re smart. You can accomplish whatever you put your mind to. Afterall, you made it through law school, passed the bar and started practicing. That’s worth celebrating. (I’m not joking.) Take a deep breath and congratulate yourself. You’re in an elite strata of society. You’re a do-er. You can do anything if you care enough. This is your new Point A. Wherever you find yourself right now. Just put yourself on the proverbial … Continue reading »

The “Best” Law Practice Area: 3 Must-Haves

3 Must Haves

What’s the best area of law to practice? That’s a tough question. However, I’ve been surveying lawyers for the past few months and asking deep questions like What’s Your Biggest Struggle? and What Would It Mean To Have A Law Business You Loved That Loves You Back? Over 300 lawyers have responded so far, and while I don’t have an answer to the question of what the best practice area is, yet… I definitely have compiled enough information to outline some standards that it must meet, in order to solve the big challenges and provide the foundation for a truly … Continue reading »

Lawyer Tips: 5 Ways to Stop Sucking at Sales

stop sucking at sales

Want to hear something funny? When you think about it, the oldest profession in the world is actually… sales. (Think about that for a minute if you don’t get the joke.) It never ceases to amaze me when professionals look down at selling as though it’s some kind of social disease. Let me set a few things straight about sales. The Truth About Sales 1.) Nothing happens in our economy until somebody sells something. That turns the whole thing on its head, doesn’t it? We NEED sales people in society like we need bees in our orchards and crops. 2.) … Continue reading »

Elements Of An Effective Law Business Plan

Elements of a Successful Business Plan

Your law business is your vehicle for realizing your dreams in life. Done properly you will create a business that provides you with the money you need to live the life you desire, and the time to enjoy it with loved ones – meaning you’re not working 50-70 hour weeks, and when you’re home, you are pleasant to be around. To write an effective business plan, like any effective communication, you need to know your audience. Who is this plan for? There’s a big difference between a business plan for seeking bank funding, and a business plan to keep yourself … Continue reading »

3 Reasons To Write A Business Plan For Your Law Practice (Even Now!)

business plan

Remember that class you took in your second semester of law school… The one where you carefully laid out your vision for how your law practice would look, feel, function and flow cash from one month to the next? Right. You didn’t have that class. You learned how to “lawyer” in law school. Running a law practice is an entirely different skill set, and it begins with admitting that there are things you don’t know. “Failure to plan, is planning to fail.” ~Benjamin Franklin Fortunately, these things are knowable, and the best part is, you can make many of the … Continue reading »

Choosing a Law Practice Area: The Hedgehog Concept

Choosing a Law Practice Area: The Hedgehog Concept

Did you read Martha’s newest article, yet? It’s a good’un. And while the article and Martha’s success is certainly slanted towards Estate Planning, and you might not (yet) practice that… Overall I think it’s important to consider the nature of selecting a practice area. In Jim Collins’ book, “Good to Great”, he talks about The Hedgehog Concept, which you can learn more about on his website. Basically, it defines your sweet spot in business as the overlap of 3 circles: Let’s take a look at each one as it relates to finding the best area of law to practice for … Continue reading »

What Legal Marketing and Fishing Have in Common

Fishing and Legal Marketing

Have you ever been fishing? It’s a great metaphor when you’re thinking about lead generation: 1.) What kind of fish do you want? 2.) Where do they hang out? 3.) What bait will get them to bite? If you aren’t clear on all these things, you could do what my dad and I did growing up… We’d get up at 4:30 am, lug all our gear down to the cold, dewey shore of Lake Geneva in Wisconsin, load up our little metal row boat and motor across the bay to the place where my uncle caught all the big fish. … Continue reading »

Many Lawyers Are “Three Feet From Gold”

3 Feet From the Gold Mine

Lawyers are classic pessimists, cynics and skeptics. It takes all types, but once in a while you have to check yourself and be sure you’re not losing faith right before you make that big breakthrough… especially when it comes to increasing your law practice revenues and building a successful law business. You could be – what Napoleon Hill calls in his seminal work Think and Grow Rich – just 3 feet from gold! Hill tells the story of an enterprising man named R. U. Harby, whose uncle had gold fever. After staking his claim and a lot of hard work, … Continue reading »

Are you ready to be a 4%’er?

Are you a 4%'er

Are you a 4%’er? Last week I talked about the 80/20 rule… 20% of lawyers are making 80% of the money. 20% of the top 20% of lawyers (4%) are making fully 64% of the total revenue in the industry, in your practice area, and in your local community of lawyers. But there’s another 4% I want to talk about. It’s the 4% you need for Flow. Flow is a state of total presence, and it’s achieved regularly by extreme athletes, musicians and CEOs who are out there pushing their edges beyond their comfort zone into the Flow Zone. In … Continue reading »
